Creating Comfortable Experiences
Offering Same-Day Crowns
We have an on-site CEREC® machine to design and create custom crowns in under an hour. This allows our dentists to provide you with a crown on the same day as your appointment. We use IPS e.max® for our same-day crowns to deliver a lifelike result. We may also work with a top lab to create your crown, depending on your circumstances.
Administering Sedation
Dr. Megan Shelton and Dr. Peter March want patients to feel comfortable every time they step through our doors. In addition to creating a warm environment for patients, we offer nitrous oxide sedation so you can feel calm as you undergo treatment. This lighter form of sedation is administered through a nose mask and wears off quickly once the mask is removed.
Welcoming Members of the Military
Dr. Megan Shelton served as a general dentist in the U.S. Navy. We’re proud to welcome veterans and active-duty military personnel to our San Diego dental office.

“Really happy with my results.”
I had been to dentists in the past who scared me, and made me feel badly for not having better dental hygiene. I saw Hope, and she didn’t make me feel badly at all. In fact, she made me feel better. I was really happy with my results, and very happy that I found Hope and Bay View Dental. I will be back again soon.

"The Bay View Dental staff have always been so helpful and caring to me and my husband. It's great to hear positive feedback on the progress on my gums! It's so nice to have my mouth not be in jeopardy anymore! It's amazing that the modern tech machine can make crowns too, right there in their office.”

The Timeline of a Dental Crown
Receiving your dental crown in Clairemont, CA, will involve several steps:
A dental crown made by Drs. Shelton and March can last well over a decade with proper care and maintenance.
Replacing a Tooth With Dental Implant Surgery
If you have a missing tooth, a dental crown can be supported by an implant to fill the gap. Drs. Shelton and March can coordinate your treatment with a team of oral surgeons in the building so you can receive streamlined care. Once your implant surgery is complete and you’ve finished healing, you can return to our office where our team will create your custom crown.
If dental implant surgery is part of your treatment plan, be prepared to add several months to your timeline. Implant surgery requires a healing period of about three to six months so the implant can integrate with your jawbone, but the results are well worth it.
If you have a missing tooth but would rather skip surgery, you can explore options like a dental bridge.

FAQ About Dental Crowns
What can I repair with a dental crown?
Our dentists in Clairemont often provide crowns for patients who have a worn, decayed, or damaged tooth, need to strengthen a tooth after root canal therapy, or are missing a tooth. A crown may also be used as a cosmetic solution for deep dental stains or a misshapen tooth.
Does getting a dental crown hurt?
Dr. Shelton and Dr. March do everything they can to minimize discomfort. Local anesthesia will be administered at the treatment site to block pain, and nitrous oxide can be administered to calm your nerves throughout your treatment. The treatment site may feel sore for a few days, but this can be managed with over-the-counter pain medication.
How long does it take for a crown to settle in?
Your crown may feel bulky right after it’s placed, but patients typically get used to how their crown feels in about two weeks. If your crown still doesn’t feel comfortable after a few weeks, schedule a dental visit with our Clairemont team so we can make some adjustments.
“My highest rating of approval.”
This was my first dental procedure. All my other visits were simply for cleaning. I was told the procedure would last two hours and though surprised at the length, I found it was a very accurate estimate of time and the time passed quickly. There was very little discomfort in this procedure, and there was absolutely no pain involved at all. The dentist and assistant were both very pleasant and extremely professional. This experience has my highest rating of approval.
View on GoogleI'm very impressed with the entire team in the office. Dr March looked over my x-rays and talked to me about my prior dentistry, treatment plan and answered my questions. Next was a cleaning. Hope is the best dental hygienist I have experienced. Each and every person I interacted with at Bay View Dental was confident, kind and efficient. I appreciate you!! I'm a big fan
